Posted By Steven .t .Gamble Hi I have recently passed my NEBOSH certificate and am looking to move into H&S full-time. Looking on this site there doesn`t seem to be many success stories. Can anyone give me any feedback on this?

Posted By Andrew Gordon Steven I have posted numerous threads but to press no luck yet,Employers do not seem willing to take on assistants or people new to Health and Safety so where are we supposed to get experience from, I am currently studying for Nebosh G C but do a job not related to the industry so I find it difficult to keep up on what's happening and can't gain relevant experience,I'm afraid you will just have to persevere and hope that employers realise that everyone has to start somewhere whether it be at the bottom or top. Good Luck

Posted By Michael Miller I also have a NEBOSH cert. and have applied for over 30 vacancies and had only one interview. I never apply for a position if I do not have what they are aking for but nothing seems to work. Despite 30yrs in construction/supervisory management and having copmleted 50pc of a diploma. Just keep plugging away as I have. I would strongly advise you to take a diploma as soon as possible as this will really make the difference. Good luck Bud!

Posted By Raymond Rapp Hi Steve etc. There have been similar threads recently with some success stories too, so take heart. The problem is twofold, first gaining experience and the second, a relevant qualification. Obviously, the better the qualification the more chance of a job. More to the point, the General Certificate is arguably the first step. For example, when I gained my IOSH TechSP status (NEBOSH Diploma 1 or NVQ 3) I thought I would walk into a decent job in h&s with realtively little experience, not so. There is a lot of competition out there, particularly from graduates. If you are serious then it would be worth considering a PG diploma or the full MSc degree. Many organisatios would take this into account when applying for a position. Remember, competition is tough, so get ahead of the game. Good luck to you all. Ray
