Posted By Lesley Hi I was recently made redundant from a major pharmaceutical company and have passed the Nebosh Certificate with a distinction and also I have started the NTU Diploma ( first modules exams due next week). But because I have a lack of experience I am beginning to despair of ever finding a H&S role . I have now been offered another job which is not H&S related and therefore I will have to defer some modules on my course to fit in with this new role if I decide to take it . H&S is what I really want to do I have some experience of auditing , risk assessements etc but does Anybody have any tips or advice on the best way to move forward - please ??

Posted By Peter Hebblethwaite Hi Lesley, As Health and Safety is what you want, stick with it. I was in a similar position a number of years ago. Get your CV to specialist and general reruitment agencies. I got my break from an engineering agency in Gloucestershire ( where I am based). If you move away from H&S it may be harder to move back. Also look at Companies local to yourself that may need H&S assistance, which may be part of a more general role. Best of luck Peter Hebblethwaite

Posted By Chris Abbott Lesley, I also was made redundant from a large pharmaceutical company last September - (GSK) Anyway, the thing is, I started with agencies like Principle People, Sypol etc.. I was able to gain a job with just the Nebosh Cert, although I did sit a Diploma from RSH - but that's a different story!! ;) Anyway plug away at these agencies. It will come right in the end! Best of luck, Chris

Posted By Anthony Slinger Needs must when the Devil drives (I think!) If you need employment, go for it. The company may not have the H&S role for you, but the will, I hope, have a good safety culture and the chance for you to get involved in H&S, committees, training etc.. Again, along with other advice, make you own luck, network, join IOSH affiliate and dont give up.

Posted By Chris Abbott They shut down Speke then... It was on the cards when we were decommissioning Dartford - I think they adopted the Leavers Process I managed with Andy Beardsley... Oh well.. I hear from friends who are still there that they are looking to chop the IT Corporate people by 50%... That's a hell of a lot of people!! Keep pushing Lesley, there are plenty of opportunities, don't ever let up. Basically hound the agencies till they get you that interview!! Best of luck, Chris

Posted By Nick Baxter Lesley, I'm on the look out for a replacement H&S team member based in the NW and for the person with the right potential, but not necessarily the level of qualification the job requires, I'm willing to put time and effort into training them to the standard I need to service the organisations needs. If you are interested e-mail me on nick.baxter@atkinsglobal.com with your CV
