Posted By Ian Dimbleby Can anyone offer feedback on the success rate of a finding employment from the forum and from the other side of the coin successfully filling vacancies posted on the forum? Obviously a number of prospective applicants will apply independent of the forum and thus we cannot gauge the sort of response these adverts generate. The other thing is that often threads get “hijacked” and loose the original message i.e. driving licence for example – how many actual job applications did that generate. Out of all the subsequent threads I did not see any interest in the position originally posted.

Posted By Keith Morison Ian, My first job as HSE & Q Manager was from a posting of mine on the IOSH website. As I tend to do contract work now, I use the forum quite often. Peter Gotch (Babtie Group) himself has replied to me in the past showing an interest. I have had a number of interviews both on the telephone and in person. One of these was for a Glasgow based company re a job near Inverness and although I didn't get the job, I was invited back to second interview and the Company Director has kept my details for any contract work that may arise. More recently I replied to an add for a job advert in the far north of Scotland and I will be having an interview for this job at the end of June. The client sifted me into the top 3 from 15 candidates who replied to his IOSH website thread. However, I suspect that my present location being nearby may have helped me to acquire the interview? I have also gained work from agencies, but the IOSH website has been invaluable for both work, and also in helping me to do my NVQ 4 in Occupational Health and Safety. Hope this helps, Keith Morison

Posted By Jim Walker Ian, My experiences from both sides: My current job I found on this site, I'm now one of those lucky people who actually looks forward to going to work (daily 35mins commute excepted). We needed staff at a difficult location and via the local papers got four mediocre applications. I posted on this site and received within 48 hours 15 applications of which 10 were very high quality and made whittling down to interview numbers very difficult. For the future, we will not waste time and money advertising elsewhere.
