Hi
Does anyone have advice about to start a career in Health and Safety? I have worked for 15 years in lab based scientifc research. I have recently gained the NEBOSH general certificate.
Thanks.

Colin, there is a great demand for new entrants into this field so the opportunities are there. Suitable work experience will help you to demonstrate your skills at interview. You may have this already. If not, seek opportunities to be more active in H&S within your current job, for example as a risk assessor, union or employee safety rep, etc. If you are out of work, even offering to do free consultancy for a local firm for a couple of months could give you the edge.
This is what I did 10 years ago to get into the field following my theoretical training and the experience I gained enabled me to attract a good first job in H&S.
Best of luck,
Wayne

Hi Colin,
Would utilising your health knowledge and combining these with mentoring be something that you'd be interested in pursuing?
If so, I'd be happy to talk with you.
Best regards,
Steve Thomas

Where are you located? I am looking for a health and safety professional with a chemical background to work in Berkshire. Is this something you would be interested in?
