I have for some time been considering setting up as a H&S Consultant for Biotech/Laboratories and also Blue Chip companies within the North West. I have worked within H&S for over 5 years now and am BSc (Hons) qualified and soon to be M.IOSH too (Dip2). I also have auditing, IT, management and facilities qualifications. This has been my dream since starting my H&S career and am hoping to launch within the next 2 years as a sole trader.
In the mean time, I am working full time. If there is anyone who can give me advice or their thoughts and tips on how to break into consultancy on their own or gain some experience or just things I can do to help my dream while working, I would be extremely grateful.

Try talking to your local Chamber of Commerce; when I started up, over 5 years ago, I was able to go on a series of courses on marketing, bookkeeping, etc. to learn how to run a business.

Hi
You have a couple of options open to you.
Contact your local business link, they usually have a team to support start up businesses.
Ask at the job centre who has the contract for self employment within your area. You could maybe attend their workshops.
Ask at your local tax office for a visit from the business support team. They will talk you through your tax obligations and keep you on the right track.
