Posted By Alan Smith I recently passed the general cert (occ S&H) credit. I have no work experinece in Health & safety. My career has been as a security Consultant (Ex Police). I took the course out of interest and also due to the overlap with what I do in terms of carrying out security risk assessments. I really enjoyed the course and found the exam more a test of memory. I now need to consider taking the diploma course. I am also aware that the dip 1 & 2 is being changed to a new style diploma. For someone without work related experience, will I be able to cope with the Diploma, and if so, which one? Is it a test of memory again? Appreciate some guidance. Kind regards, Alan (based in Bournemouth if anyone can meet to discuss)

Posted By Peter Lee Hi Alan, with that move to Man Utd I dont know why youre considering moving into H&S, but I suppose you have to think of the future. Anyway, go for it, I passed NEBOSH Cert and NEBOSH Dip 1 first time without experience. Got the qualifications then got a job. Good Luck. PL

Posted By Calum R Cameron Alan-I live in Poole. I did the dip 1 and dip 2 and passed both first time. I can safely say that they are incredibly hard-part two makes part one look like a doddle. If you are going to do dip 1-speak to Chris Beechey at Poole College. I know all the tutors on the dip 1 course and can tell you that they are all very good. The down side to Poole college is that the hand outs that I was given were well out of date. Call me for a natter if you like 07901 513063. Cheers Calum

Posted By Julie Peake Hi Alan, I've just done my Dip 1 with no experience, and not even having done the certificate. I didn't find it too hard, as I am lucky enough to work in a manufacturing and office environment and could put things into practice as I covered them on the course. I know some others found it a bit more difficult depending on their background, but if you get a good team on the course then it can make all the difference. If you can visit other premises and see H&S in action it will make more sense of the coursework without necessarily needing to have prior experience yourself, and will definitely help with assignments. The exam is definitely a test of the memory. Good luck!

Posted By Simon Rider Alan Before you decide give some consideration to a part time BSc(hon) in "Occupational Health and Safety Management" it gives you membership of IOSH a degree and it's a lot less money. I would recommend Middlesex University, but I think it's a bit far for you. Try local universities
