In August 2004, Babtie Group joined the Jacobs group of companies, which employs nearly 40000 globally. See www.jacobs.com

Following the merger Jacobs Babtie is a 4000 strong technical and management consultancy with offices throughout the U.K. and overseas. We advise clients in a wide range of industries including power, transport, utilities, healthcare, education, docks, mines, prisons, defence, nuclear and waste management. See www.jacobsbabtie.com for more details.

We employ over 30 qualified health and safety advisers and trainers, including 17 corporate members of IOSH.

We have a track record of helping people gain experience and qualifications. For example our former departmental secretary has attained a level 4 NVQ and MIOSH status.

In the process, she has been involved in a vast range of projects, including spending a week in the Falklands to co-deliver IOSH Managing Safely.

Substantial effort is currently being put into integration processes.

Our health and safety advisory structure at present has been based on a single MIOSH Corporate Services H&S Manager, who is responsible for procuring additional resources from our H&S consultancy business stream.

However, as part of the integration process, it is proposed to substantially alter and expand arrangements for internal health and safety advice and training, with a seven fold increase in the size of the Corporate team, whilst still procuring some services from SafeSolutions@Jacobs.

This team would include one adviser as the first point of contact for each of four operational business centres and one adviser specifically responsible for railway issues [including maintenance of our contractor assurance case], all reporting to a senior HSE professional.

The final post in the new Corporate structure offers a career development opportunity for a new H&S, environment or construction graduate, who wants to develop their career in the field of occupational health and safety.

Thanks to all who replied to my posting of 24 November. I have filtered applications and forwarded those whom I thought might interest our internal client to the relevant decision makers, including our Director responsible for HSW issues in Jacobs Babtie.

This is a tightening of the person specification set out in my last posting [and leads to some likelihood that we might find an internal candidate who would suit the role]

This post will be based at Jacobs Babtie European head office in Glasgow.

This position will offer the chance to gain experience linked to a diverse range of projects and risks.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please send your CV to me

preferably by email to

peter.gotch@jacobs.com
or by post to Jacobs Babtie 95 Bothwell Street, Glasgow G2 7HX

A short posting, describing the vacancy would have been nice, not a long rant about the company history and organisational plans.

I lost the will to live about 1/2 way through, so I won't be applying.

If thats the length of a intro to a job advert, I hate to see your internal paper work.

That's a bit harsh isn't it Artful?

By your lack of patience and need to see the full facts I reckon Mr Gotch would doubt your commitment to the facts and ability to ingest the full information available - all crucial requirements of the safety profession. If you can't be arsed to read through the information available, how can you come to a sound conclusion - are all accidents the fault of the individual in your book because you can't be bothered to investigate the root causes? I wonder.....

Don't think I was being harsh - just asking for people to get to the point.

I usually live by the old slogan K.I.S.S.

Keep It Simple Stupid

When writing reports etc, people don't want to wade through lines/pages of irrelevant information - the reason for the job/organisational changes could be discusses at interview and/or as part of the information pack supplied for applicants.

No worries Artful - just a bit of a tounge in cheek response!

Jeff - I've already got a nice (but very stressfull) and well paid job in operations management, but a bit of brown nosing here and there may pay dividens in time??!???

Artful

That my postings on this forum work is demonstrated by over 1000 hits in less than a week, and the number of applications I have been processing. I tried to save readers from wasting time by highlighting in title that the location is NOT flexible.

That plus finding 5 new staff at various points on their learning curves via this forum this year alone.

On this occasion, I dare say that the "debate" which you started may have accelerated the hit counter.

I suppose I should thank you for putting my posting back to the top of the page.

So thank you.

Regards, Peter

Artful

If you read the original post you will see that CV's are wanted directly, there is no application form/pack to get the relevant company details from. Therefore including this much info is important if a potential applicant wants to 'tailor' their CV.

Anyway - the information is being put their for vaguely serious jobhunters - not your entertainment.

Artful - No I dont have shares, and have no raw nerves. However, its mildly irritating when people needlessly whinge about a post that is ultimately trying to do the users of this forum a favour.

Artful,

Despite trying to give readers enough information, I have had email from Oliver asking "Please sir, can I have some more".

Duly emailed back, since I am not Scrooge.

Might be putting a formal complaint in over that last posting.

I don't mind having fun and jesting with people, AND people making fun of me - I can give and take it - but I don't expect to receive offensive postings adressed to me personally.

A public apology would be nice....say by the end of the week/Christmas?

Artful,

You are right, I was totally out of order. Please accept my unreserved apologies for my comment. It was meant in jest, but I now realise that I have caused you offence and for that I am sincerely sorry. Let this be a lesson to anyone who uses this forum after coming in from the pub.

Merry Christmas to you, and a safe New Year.

Dave (offers handshake)

Personally I would prefer postings to have a little more information rather than the usual two liner.

Before you mention it...no, I have not applied, already been there.
