In regards to working in Australia you will need to contact Australia House for details.

I suggest you get a work permit for a year and try it for yourself. Immigrating to a new country so far from the UK is a big step that many have made. Its down to personal choice.

If you look at the above search engines you will see the available work and even go as far as to enquire of the agencies that place the ads.

You will need to do your own research and find the best means of finding a new life down under.

There are no handouts and you will stand on your merits – so nothing different there. There are vacancies all over and you background experience will be an important factor. Most people who have written to me clearly hold senior positions and have no doubt had an extraordinary scope of experiences in their working life.

I urge you to be persistent and once committed ‘go for it’. Make sure your wife and kids are prepared for major changes.

Some don’t find the environment to their liking but the Brits that stay have made a ‘place in the sun for themselves’ and have become solid members of the OHS community.

It is a well known fact that most Brits are ‘Gypsies’. For all those that yearn for the good life, there’s no better place.

Tasmania is like UK, Victoria is between UK and Mid European, NSW is like Europe with Skiing in Winter and Sun and Surf in the Summer. West Australia is miles from the rest of Australia but literally ‘packed’ with Poms – so you should be right at home plenty of work too.

Queenland is the tropical North and the sun is present most of the time except in tropical thunder storms.

The Northern Territory is hot the year round.

The Australian Capital Territory where Canberra is located is hot in summer and cold in winter and is for the bureaucrats.

Sydney is not the capital but should be and is the biggest city in Aus.

Don’t be fooled by the glamour – its still hard work but worth it.

Without going into a complete diatribe as to the 'for' argument:

Why not?

Canberra is a 'White Elephant' and exists in a remote part of NSW because of Australia's desire to mimic the Americans e.g. Washington.

I do not know of any other country that has a specific capitol state. What an unnecessary waste of money in my view.

However, this was not the purpose of the thread so please "don't hijack" its original intent! It is not for your benefit but for those wanting an alternative.
