Posted By Diane D I have completed my NEBOSH General Certificate, and hold the IOSH Managaing Safely in the Police Service Certificate. Due to re structure my role is now being steered towards Health and Safety and Project Management. Any advice as to what qualification I should do next ie Level 4 NVQ. I think that I would like to become a Health and Safety Advisor and any advice will be gratefully accepted. Diane D

Posted By Seth Pierce Diane, I found that perseverence is the key. I was lucky as a company took me on without NEBOSH and trained me up, enabling me to gain both a qualification and invaluable hands on experience. I did hit a bit of a stumbling block when I came to move on to a different company but luckily my experience got me through. Just keep trying and I'm sure something will come up. I wish you all the best in your job search. If you would like any further advice let me know. Best Regards Seth sdp@henrob.co.uk

Posted By Linda Crossland-Clarke Hi The level 4 NVQ is aimed at persons undertaking a broad range of tasks. If your job is steering towards the H&S role, you should be able to work at various units as your job develops. The main areas you will need to aim for are, training, communication up/down the organisation, risk assessing and controls, policy writing, auditing, emergency situations, and safety culture. Once registered for an NVQ you have roughly 2 years to complete it. A point to note is that the current standards are officially due to expire this summer, but I am informed that the awarding bodies are all applying for extentions on this. Linda. SHE Knows.
