Posted By MALCOLM HAMILTON Any info on this subject I work in a F.E. college, we have a number of both physically and mentally disabled students. Should the refuge points be used for wheelchair bound people only or should it be any people with movement problems.

Posted By Ed Carter Malcolm, In the College I work for, we have not only those in wheel chairs, but also those with quite severe mobility problems using refuge points. For those with less severe mobility problems our procedure is for them to wait for the main crush to pass, and then follow them down. I have tried advocating the use of ground floor only facilities however I'm sure you'll be aware of the sort of responses to that suggestion I get, Hope this helps, Ed

Posted By Ken Taylor 'Fire Safety: An Employer's Guide' (HSE Books)is helpful on this as it gives 'wheelchair users' as an example of those who could benefit from refuges and goes on to refer to older people possibly benefiting from facilities provided for those with disabilities and then refers to assisting the less able-bodied, people with impaired mobility, vision, hearing, mental illness, etc.
