Posted By TOM GORMAN I would be grateful if anyone could supply me with details of any relevant guidance or advice with regard to deaf or partially deaf employees working in a warehouse. The premises in question is a large distribution warehouse and has a large number of fork lift trucks and vehicles in operation. Consequently, there is a problem of not hearing vehicle reversing alarms or fire alarms.

Posted By Mike McDonnell Being deaf and responsible for auditing warehouses myself I have some sympathy regarding your query. Obviously you need to be careful in terms of DDA and discrimination. I had a similair problem regarding fork lif truck operations and I found EMAS to be very helpfull. In addition most LA's have a Disablement Resettlement Officer who may be able to provide advice. Should you wish to discuss this further ring 07990 698856 or e mail mike.mcdonnell@co-op.co.uk

Posted By Jim Walker Hi Tom, Strangely enough I wrote a special risk assessment for a deaf chap, last week, who wanted to drive a FLT and there was a suggestion he couldn't. E-mail me at jim@sgplc.co.uk if you want more details.

Posted By Peter Sinnott There is a system called Deaf Alerter for fire alarms www.deaf-alerter.com Tel:01332 363981 Initial cost of installing I've been told is £4,000. Not expensive if it saves a life. Peter
