Posted By Malcolm If an organisation has to operate a standby system. How dose the WTR stand with the following standby system. Standby rotation approx 10 weeks between Length of standby 1 week Work normal shift approx 8am to 6pm Rest until earliest (expected) call out 10 pm Normal working day next day This is the style of standby system a domestic gas repair company is proposing to operate (so factor in that the men will also be driving)

Posted By Frank Neville Johnson Malcolm This is an interesting subject for the Fire Service as we employ part-time people who have 'ordinary jobs' and are retained by the Fire Authority as 'fire-fighters' during the remainder of their time. This usually results in them being effectively on 24-hour cover. However, the work they actually carry out is subject to fire calls and very spasmodic. The only problem we have found has been with a potential for fire appliance drivers accumulating driving hours and exceeding their allowed hours preventing them working the next day for their employer. I would also be interested in the implications for this. Frank
