Posted By chandrashekhar i have a situation , where the leading edge of a highrise strcuture has not been adequately guarded. it is on the roof top between Building Maintenance Unit track, the operator needs to access these areas on a regular basis along with 5 upsailers to clean the roof top glazing. structural engineer/architects are in the openion of not providing guardrail. they are not convinced because of the cost implication. under such circumstances what i should do? your expert advise would be appreciated.any reference of BS standard for guardrils would be of help thanks in advance

Posted By Jay Joshi Even if you are not in UK, the hierarchy of risk reduction measures needs to be considered at the "design" stage--(implemented by the CDM Regulations in UK)i.e. eliminate the risk or provide permanent fall protection by means of handrails / walkways, etc--then use suspended equipment--

Posted By Ken Taylor With an existing building, I would want to ask whether someone was required to work within 2m of an unprotected edge or was otherwise at risk of falling more than 2m. This being the case, edge protection would be the first option followed by a fall-restraint system. Doing nothing would not be an option!
