I have been asked to design a fire evacuation plan at work, and I have absolutely no idea where to start. Does any one have a template I can have which would assist me.

Hi Cherry
my first concern would be that you say you have no idea where to start,as you are probably aware an evacuation plan requires a fair amount of competancy in that area and as such should not be completed by someone who feels they do not fit this bill,as with whoever wrote the fire risk assessment i would start with each area and identify each exit from that area identifying any issues that could be associated with evacuation, for example if one room was on fire it could mean the evacuation route runs alongside so an alternative exit would be used, hope this helps,is there anyone else in the company who can assist you and take a tour with you and offer practical advice eg the safety manager or whoever did the fire risk assessment, also talk to the people working there and ask their opinions you normally find they know things us guys never thought of

Hi,this topic is very important, every organisation or company should have a Fire-Evacuation plan, as per HSE/legal/Insurance reuirements. The awareness of Fire evacuation plan is the first part and appropriate fire warden training & fire drills helps in bringing awareness and what is expected to be done in the event of Fire. i.e.
1a. Identify the Emergency escape routes from your building/site, or ask your host, if applicable ,to show you the nearest exit from your place of work or office to Fire Assembly Point and main gate.
1b. Look for the sketch/layout, drawing of the building showing escape routes, displayed on each floor marked with routes showing exit doors, escape route & fire assembly point)
1c. Look for sketch displayed of Location of Fire Alarm (detection) system, fire break glass point, fire-zone displayed. Also location of fire-fighting equipments i.e. portable fire extinguishers cylinders
2.List of responsible persons nominated as Fire wardens & Incharge & HSE manager/ safety officer/first Aider's name & telephone contact nos.& Emergency/Fire Rescue services.
3.Procedure/guidelines to follow, in the event of Fire occurance i.e.
If you discover Fire, then > Raise the Alarm, shout fire, fire, fire ....or use handi-horn or Activate fire alarm bell by pushing the break-glass point, call for Emergency services and security & safety Head,at gate.Inform location of fire-how many persons injured, your name & contact tel.nos. Evacuate the building immediately and assemble at the fire assembly point.Wait for instructions from Fire warden who is responsible for fire-evacuation, Roll call is taken and await for further instructions,if it is safe to return to your office or vacate to outside safe area.
Try to fight the fire by using appropriate type of Fire-extinguisher only,if you are trainned & competent to fight the small fire.
3. Switch-Off power source / ISOLATE (if any) or any other energy source (gas valves etc).
4.Let the Fire-fighting Rescue team or Fire Brigade team fight the fire and bring the situation completely in control.Call for ambulance services for injured persons (if any) also . Feedback to management & follow-up (reports). regds Naveen

If you search the web with "fire evacuation planning", you can get loads of results. The two I would recommend reading are on these sites.
http://www.communities.g...resafetylaw/aboutguides/
http://www.businesslink....OURCES&itemId=1073793916
This sort of work can be both very easy and very complex. A lot depends on your specific circumstances and you give no details of those at all.
You ask for a template and you will find, for example, a list of things to consider on the business link site.
Hopefully these links and your own searches will bring you to an adequate understanding of what is required and you will confidently proceed. If not, then seek more competent advice from someone who knows their fire safety stuff.

Hi, I also require a template as a means to prepare a Fire Evacuation Plan. I would appreciate any help on this. I've had a look at the links above but cannot seem to find any template to work from, only advice on what to consider. Thank you Steve....
