Posted By Safe System Good Morning Fellow Safety Pros.. Advice please... When working on a multi level construction site: A ground floor slab which has multi-levels where the drop on most levels is about 1-2ft... what would you suggest as the most reasonably practicable approach to edge protection? Combi-safe is something we use on concrete structures i.e. 5 story buildings but when the works require the edge protection to be adapted on a very regular basis (a few times a week) combi-safe just isn't practicable.. yet, plastic barriers serve a purpose but wouldn't support someone falling against them... Looking for a realistic, practical approach - bearing in mind the fall height. Thanks,

Posted By Tony abc jprhdnMurphy Use your Risk Assessment. This is the dilemna for all invol;ved in WAH. It really is about the "risk" from a fall and this must be categorised as significant, and not fanciful. We work on thousands of rooves with no edge protection but we always have a RA with suitable control measures. It is a difficult one I admit but a suitable RA should suffice.

Posted By clarkey I don't know if my first response has gone through as the moderator was working on the site at the time. How far near to the edge do you need to go? How big are the slabs? I know what you are saying about plastic barriers, but if you were to set them back from the edge it would withstand someone falling against it. Technically it has to be set back 1.5 metres from the edge to support someone falling against the fencing without going over the edge. Also have you thought about the feasibility of herras fencing panels?

Posted By Safe System Looked at heris, that is an option. Went to site last week & while i was there had them moved 1.5 meters back from the edge, so that side has been done. Always a tricky one!
