Posted By Charlie0538 Hi Jim, It depends how detailed you want to be. Most boards are happy with how many accidents, ridoor and majors' the company have had. Some want to know how much it has cost them in claims etc. Some want to know how many fines the comapny have had and how all of this can be reduced next year. If this is not a new thing, try having a look at what they have been given before and look at improving on the information given. Ask other managers what they are having to provide and see if you have something similar but from a H&S perspective. Let us know how you get on. Charlie

Posted By Stephen Mitchell Jim As CFT has stated, if you can look at old reports then you’ll get an idea of what they want; providing of course they are happy with the old format. You may also like to have a look on the HSE website at http://www.hse.gov.uk/revitalising/annual.htm. You can also of course Google for H&S Annual Reports and look at as many as you wish or until your eyes start to bleed. Cheers Steve

Posted By CFT The real CFT has to produce one of these on a monthly basis which is somewhat of a chore. Keep it to areas they would want to know about and the traffic light system seems to be a reasonable way of producing it; they seem to like all the green ones. I find red helpful when I may need their attention. Set it out into areas/places/classifications, whatever works for you, and fill in each section evolving or adding categories as time goes by; after a while you end up with one that works well for all concerned. I find the frequency useful in terms of audit trails; "do we need to really do anything here?" I hear occasionally. "It's your call but should you choose to ignore it a documented path exists." This is an item that my authority level will not permit actual change, only advice, otherwise it would be simple. This has made a difference in terms of support from the board so I look upon it as a tool to help me and a way of ensuring a full trail of potential liability is in place to assist me if I meet with an absolute "oh lets just ignore it." It then moves from amber to red and stays on red until they agree to whatever recommendations I have made that ultimately benefit the organisation, me and the process/issue. If you like your more than welcome to catch sight of one. Charley (with an ey)
