Posted By steven bentham Sharon I think the programme made a good point of certain 'famous' people who were lending their names and reputations to the businesses involved. It was certainly 'slumdogs and millionaires'. Working conditions were worth seeing. For those in the IOSH Careers Forum asking what is it like to work there?, then you should see the programme. Steve

Posted By AMelrose ^ sorry, but in what way are we superior? I assume you mean "we" have better H&S legislation to protect our workers within the UK compared to over there?

Posted By A Campbell Imported workers live in some appalling conditions all over the world. I didn't really find anything new on this report. I don't think we are totally immune from it here either where east European workers live in cramped unkempt conditions, usually rented accommodation, in tents on woodland, even public conveniences. H&S legislation doesn't take the living conditions into account... only working conditions. I have worked on offshore installations where containers have been converted in order to accomadate workers... usually from east asia.

Posted By Claudia Steve, I’m not sure which version of the show you were watching, but the show I watched showed the workers discussing their living arrangements as poor, worse than the ‘poverty’ they came from, very unhygienic etc. Most of them had to remain due to debts owed to agencies; they also stated that they would have been better off staying in their homelands, especially since they weren’t gaining anything. It was pretty much slave labour! Those controlling the projects should be ashamed. There was nothing 'relative' or 'normal' to any worker in that show.
