Although everybody agrees that such sites should have a degree of security there seem to be a general lack of information on the level of security that is needed in relation to the risks potential.
I came across a difficulty in finding guidelines or code of practices that indicate the desirable level of security in an LPG site (Low tier) where the limit of storage is below 2000tonnes.
I would be really grateful if someone of you can indicate some sources of information or have experience to share with this regard.

Nicholas,
Having had some experience in security consultancy I would suggest that you need to consider not just health & safety but also security risks such as, for example, terrorist attack.

This is a highly specialised area and I would suggest that, in the first instance, you could contact the Association of Security Consultants (www.securityconsultants.org.uk).

If it would be of help I can also give you contacts details of one or two consultants who have a senior military background and expertise in this area.

I must stress that I am not a member of ASC and have not worked in security consultancy for some time, so I have no financial interest in supplying this information.

I hope this helps.

Special Branch usually visit our site every other year to give advice on security, though this is for top tier.

They may be more than happy to help you out though.

Thank you for your help. I have discovered that for lower tier sites, proper fencing, controlled access and CCTV systems will be enough.

Regards

Nick
