A colleague of mine has been trying to get managers at her workplace (NHS) to re-arrange their office (broom cupboard more like) workspace due to the utter lack of general work space and workstations/desks/chairs etc. for months if not years. Even after the manager was told that staff were working off mobile trolleys (normally used to transfer notes) and sitting on boxes the manager refused to do anything about it. In the end a photograph or two was taken and the manager was shamed into promising some action (or was it the impending HSE visit?).
Has anyone else used the power of the camera in such a way?

Hi Wil,

I have found the camera to be my friend on many occasions at work. One of our escape corridors was being used to dump equipment, bags of rubbish, stock etc. After a few days of gentle reminders to management (which they ignored), I went on a walk with a digital camera, printed off the images and inserted them into the Fire Risk Assessment. I then asked senior management to sign the photos and the review this had triggered in the FRA. Once the corridor was cleared out I removed the photo - but kept a copy anyway, just in case......

I also find photos very helpful when complaining to our distribution depot when they send in stock on broken pallets, or the pallets themselves have been packed in an "eccentric" manner (cases of wine on top of toilet paper, anyone?)

Best regards!

Eliza

Yes, used many times. A few 'howlers' in my gallery.

I use mine all the time. Staff get embarrassed when they see me taking the photos. This alone triggers them into action, I suppose it is all down to how much clout you have as a H&S professional.

I have loads. I think IOSH should let us attach photo's to these posts and have a hall of fame!!
