Posted By RR Hi
Needed some help on pressure testing. We have just designed a designated area for pressure testing vessels.
I am a new to this subject and need to put together a procedure and risk assessment for entering the designated area and precautions to take regarding pressure testing.
Does anyone have one i could please have a look at.
Thanks

Posted By Flic There is no simple answer to this. I suggest you start by reading the publication 'Safety in Pressure Testing', GS4, published by the HSE.
However, the precautions to be taken and the demands made on the structural integrity of the containment area depend crucially on the stored energy within the item being tested. This depends on its volume and the pressure to which it is raised.
When something fails during pressure testing the results can be catastrophic - I have seen photographs of pieces of pressure vessel that have landed in car parks after exiting the building. Flic

Posted By Stuff4blokes RR, the insurers who are providing liability/property insurance cover for this activity are likely to have opinions on what precautions they expect to see in place. The bodies who carry out statutory pressure tests have much technical expertise and can make this available to your engineers too.
