Anyone,

We have recently given over some of our land to a bee keeper who keeps hives.
There are four active hives and as its bees they keep themselves to themselves however our workforce work outdoors near the area (though a safe distance cordon is around the hives)
Would it be going to far to consider additional fully risk assessing first aid provisions or emergency planning?
Struggling to find HSE guidance on this so does anyone have experience/advice.

Bees shouldn't be a problem as long as you leave them alone. However, are any of your workers allergic to bee stings?

My neighbour keeps bees... get a free jar of honey and tastes great!

He does warn me once a year as the bees are released.. not sure what the process is but can have the possibility of a swarm forming at that time.

maybe discuss with the keeper if they have a similar system?

I would consider stocking epi-pens in your first aid kit as an additional item.

You have essentially introduced a risk of employees being stung, if one has an allergic reaction....having an epi-pen on standby has to be a good thing.

Although I can see the temptation, I would only consider epi-pens in line with existing guidance. Please see the bottom of this HSE page: http://www.hse.gov.uk/firstaid/faqs.htm

I would suggest that these should not be routinely added to first aid kits just because of the presence of bees.
