Posted By Sara Williams Dear all
I am comparing paying someone to come in and test illuminance lux versus buying a light metre and teaching myself how to do this.
I have been reading up on the HSE guidance on this subject and have looked at light metre operation and feel fairly able to do this.
However am I being arrogant or ignorant in thinking it is a fairly straightforward matter?
Background information: Small office (a charity heavily reliant on computer) laid out on three floors, staff number approx 60. I have looked at: OC559/9 from HSE, Workplace Regs, CIBSE Code for Interior lighting 1994.http://www.cibse.org/pdfs/factfile3.pdf I am a health and safety professional and am not usually a fan of cost cutting measures.
All opinions gratefully received.
Thanks

Posted By Alan Hoskins It's a simple matter to take readings, but what do you intend to do with them? What is the purpose?

Posted By Ron Hunter Consider hiring one. Even better, go along to your local IOSH Branch and ask if anyone would consider lending you theirs!

Posted By Paul Leadbetter Sara Anyone can use a light meter but, if you want the readings to be reproducible and to stand up to scrutiny, you need to carry out the survey to an established method. Try here: www.cibse.org/docs/factf3.docPaul

Posted By Sara Williams Yes, I've had a look at this - it was very useful. But thanks anyway.
