I want to purchase an intergrating sound level meter.
I have found one that complies with IEC 651 (type 2) is this compliant to BS EN ISO 61672 Class 2 as defined with the Controlling Noise at Work Regs?

Hi Vic,

I have been looking to do the same thing this week and have found it impossible to decide if the old Type II is equivalent of the new Class II.

Sorry to get you excited that someone may have an answer to your query but I gladly await a response from someone with experience in this area.

Vic

Can the manufacturer of the instrument you have in mind not tell you?

Hello, I have contacted the manufacturer of the meter and also IEC to confirm standard compliance, once I have the answer I will post on the forum. Cheers

According to my Unit B study notes
For use in compliance with the CNAW Regulations 2005, such a meter must at least be:
-
a Class 2 instrument (BS EN ISO 61672-1:2003); or
-
a Type 2 instrument (BS EN 60804:2001 – the previous standard);
and capable of measuring:
-
Equivalent, continuous A-weighted sound pressure level (LAeq or Leq dBA), which is used to calculate the daily personal noise exposure (LEP,d).
-
Maximum C-weighted peak sound pressure level.

Hope this helps

Hi.

I am also looking at purchasing a noise meter. It is pretty expensive gear so it needs to be suitable for noise assessments. Would anyone make recommendations as to a reputable company or a good make?

Thanks, B

Noise measuring equipment can be quite expensive to purchase. As we only require to use it once every two or three years I am looking at hiring the kit instead. Have you considered this?
