Posted By Malcolm Greenhouse We only have a very elaborate questionnaire for gauging the competency of contractors from a Health and Safety point of view. Drawn up with large contracts in mind. The question is does anyone have a questionnaire for the small end of the market that will not put off the SME's for applying for work?
Thanking you in anticipation.

Posted By Stuff4blokes Why not use the small guys who have done good and safe work in the past?
Make them your approved contractors (but don't let them know) and get alternative quotes from time to time to keep them keen.

Posted By Bob Youel I am sure that you have already considered it but you also need to risk rate as a small arborist co I looked at had only a 'light' prequalification as he was deemed to be low risk because the work he did was below a certain£ but on looking at his insurance I found out that he was only insured for live stock and looking at arbour accidents it was obvious that small also carries large ris - risk rate your subbie and go from there noting that the inland rev do not let them get off lightly so why should H&S

Posted By Bob Youel somehow I submitted my last response without spell checking etc so sorry if there are any obvious blunders
Overall the point is that small can be costly so do not take chances
