Could any one help with the following
What is the legal position with regard to a
person assisting a driver in the reversing of a
vehicle, The drivers in question believe that a banks man takes charge of the vehicles movement and absolves them of any responsibility

The banksman is there to assist the driver but the driver has responsibility for his vehicle at all times he is driving it.

Agreed - the banksman is there as an extra pair of eyes and is there to assist. The driver is responsible for the movement of the vehicle.
If the driver disputes any instruction given by the banksman he must stop until the matter is clarified.
Roles and responsibilities should be documented and make clear to all.
