The biggest safety risk is that of staff being assaulted when they tell a 'stinky' individual to wear deodorant.

Following on from Andy's response, how do the ride employees determine which aspiring riders are niffy and to what degree? Just imagine the scene: Employee to customer "Excuse me - please could you raise one arm so that I can carry out an olefactory assessment of your armpit?" Note that in Scotland there is the option to say "oxter" instead of "armpit". Considering that people on the ride will be in the open air and moving quite fast at times, won't there be plenty of ventilation to disperse the odour from niffy people. If so, what's the problem?
In any event, the noses and brains of different employees may have different perceptions of niffiness. Also, individual perceptions may vary over time for various reasons, e.g. if a person has a cold or perhaps has eaten a strong curry. Therefore, there is a strong need for a niff-ometer. Does such a device exist? If so, how is it calibrated?!
I'm really straying now into traditional Friday frivolity, but not apologising because every day on this forum can be regarded as Friday. e.g. Saturday is Friday+1 while today is Friday+6 or even Friday-1. If a niff-ometer isn't already available, surely there's scope for one to be invented and sold for various situations. For example, airlines may wish to check their passengers before boarding. There are major differences in ventilation standards and journey times between an aircraft flight and a roller-coaster ride. Can others think of other situations? If there are plenty of situations, any inventor of a suitable device might even be able to go on BBC TV's "Dragons' Den" and successfully get some backing!

How unusually slovenly of them Clare!
Simple explanation though; the normal editor is on summer holiday and his junior has yet to learn all the sensationalist tricks.
