Hi all, Got an email answer as "NOT READ"from a manager in charge of a training centre yesterday "19 August 09" re an email I sent containing the premise inspection and Fire risk Assessment for the property I carried out. I sent the mail on "12 DECEMBER 2006" Do you think she takes H&S seriously ????

I take it that you are a freelance consultant. Don't you think, you should have contacted her (during this time)by other means just to ensure if she has recieved the documents or to answer any other queations/concerns.
In my opinion, you both are in the same boat i'm afraied.
No offence meant

I can read an email and open attachments in the preview pane of outlook express which leaves the email still "unread" as I havnt opened it, but I have still actually read it. I think the read receipt is only sent upon opening, but im no IT expert. Maybe now they only just properly opened it, or maybe I am just being optimistic

Must agree with Swis, in that any h&s concerns should be followed up and not left hanging. Apathy is endemic in some quarters. I usually follow up with 'Polite Reminder' when my email has not been answered in good time. A phone call is next.

Oh dear, it would appear that everyone's jumping to the conclusion that you didnt follow up on your original email when you didnt put that you had or had not followed up on your email as it was irrelevant to the point of your post. (any shamed faces now?)
I do, however, see your point in that it has taken this person 3 years to actually open the email properly. Look on the bright side she may be using your original assessment because it was good, in which case she may be taking it seriously if she's had the thought to go back through her emails that far.

Did you get paid? Review time: another payday.
Sphericals to those who say you should have followed up. As a consultant if you have submitted your report in line with the brief, received acknowledgement and the cheque then you may well have done exactly what was expected of you, unless however the client had comissioned you to follow through on any findings (unlikely but possible). It may be good business practice to follow up but there may be very good reasons for the gap in time.
It is not unusual to find that H&S is dealt with in this way, with the client getting the report and promptly forgetting it, assuming that's all that's needed.
We who use this forum are the unusual ones: we know that H&S is not only about getting the assessments done. Sadly my cynical view is built on experience.

God can't believe the little faith.. that anyone would think a fellow professional would not follow up reports. The assistant manager took all the responsibility for the property the manager was copied in on the mail to him. But would at least have expected her to read the stuff.
Cheers.
