Posted By C. Hartman I posted a note the other day about a link to an initiative which revolved around promoting 'personal responsibility for safety'. Personal responsibility for safety is probably THE first step towards improving health and safety standards; and there's plenty of people out there who still don't get it. I thought IOSH members would (perhaps) be interested in leading by example...rather than being the last to know about initiatives like this. Hence my post on this forum. In less than 24 hrs the post was removed. Please why? Hopefully not because it's irrelevant...surely IOSH members want to know about things like this, even if they choose not to act on them. Hopefully not because it's 'advertising' the company...otherwise most threads need to be deleted. And I suppose 'so what'. If there is a good product, like a new safety harness, why SHOULDN'T we promote it amongst ourselves, is there anything intrinsically wrong with that? Really? So why Mr Moderator, why stop fellow professionals from trying to make a contribution towards a safer society...isn't that our job & duty? Isn't this unnecessary, unjustified and excessive 'moderation' an example of the very same that is giving our own profession so much negative press? As a 'group', how are we supposed to communicate, develop, improve and stay professionally dynamic if we can't share ideas freely (racism and swearing aside). Kind regards Frustrated & confused...but one person =:)

Posted By IOSH Moderator C Hartman, Your e-mail appears to be no longer current otherwise you would have received news about our decision via this route. Please update your details with a valid address. In respose to your question: The initial thread "Personal Response for Safety - are you in?" was removed under AUG 3 as it appeared to be "promoting a cause or campaign". (In addition we suspected that a commercial purpose was being promoted, but couldn't verify this due to our inability to contact you on the address you had provided.) Subsequent threads "Forum moderators - taking it too far?" and "Tut tut Moderator" were hidden on the grounds that they we complaints against moderation and fell foul of AUG 4
