Hi everyone

I am currently looking at changing our Occ Health provider - we use the local hospital Occ Health unit but am looking at other alternatives

Would be interested to hear from others as to what private providers they use and how good, bad or indifferent they are and also useful to have a background of costs

Many thanks in advance

Edward hi,

I work in East Central Scotland, and there is an NHS branch of Occ Health Called 'OHSAS', not the usual Hospital Occ Health, OHSAS seem to be more for businesses to use, very good service. and you will get the required info with out breaching patient confidentiality.

My company got bought over back in 07, new owner new Occ Health provider 'AVIVA', they have mobile units that can come to your site for medicals etc. For you to get the sort of info you need for record keeping / proof / information for improvements etc, etc. very hard as Patient confidentiality locks everything down tightly, you may get a simple fit / un fit, with no pertinent details that would help you instigate better controls to comply with your duty of care.

there are other private organisations out there, keep looking.

regards

Simon

Hi Edward

at my previous place of employment we used AXA ICAS. Not the cheapest but they used to provide data on the interventions that they carried out showing how they reduced the level of sickness abscence (particularly with regard to MSDs). This data proved useful when talking to the finance dept around funding

My current employer has their own in house OHD so i can't comment on any other providers

Hope this helps,

Regards

John

Hi Edward

at the risk of indulging in egg-sucking, don't forget to consider the specification of work before you get involved in tendering. Don't assume that OH providers all do the same things.

Can't recommend anyone as I'm in Glasgow!

Edward

are you not risking a lynch mob from Unite by asking the question? I understand that they were up in arms about very similar issues a while back, stating that outside providers can only be asked to tender if a trust is deemed to be failing and has not taken remedial measures. Is that not still government policy?
