I am curently researching methods for improving the slip resistance on areas of various internal and external flooring. In the past I have heard stories of treatments being administered that have aggravated problems. I am also aware that shot blasting of areas is a technique used to roughen up flooring surfaces. I have had some pendulum tests conducted as a trial, in one area the test value was recorded as 35, at the top end of a moderate slip potential according to an HSE information sheet I have read.
Has anyone else investigated similar concerns and if so can you recommend any treatments / techniques that have proved successful and any to stay clear of?

Check ou the the IOSH magazine SHP, I found an article on this company below that have provided suitable remedies to non- slip surfaces of floors

Samples and information are available from Plastic Extruders Ltd – tel: 01268 571116 or visit www.vynagrip.com

By the way, I do not work with this company, nor have had any dealings, so I would research the product more if I were you.

There's some free, impartial, advice on the HSE website as part of their STEP (Slips and Trips e-learning package): http://www.hse.gov.uk/slips/step/index.htm

There is a short chapter on flooring tratements under the "contamination" section of the "Advanced" course. This looks at acid etches, mechanical roughening, anti-slip paints and varnishes, anti-slip polishes and anti-slip tapes.
