Hello all.
I worked for a company many years ago and became the company H&S advisor. The company I worked for put me through some training with the "British Safety Council".
I obtained certificates in "General Safety Training" and i believe the first part of "Safety Management" in 1995.
The company closed after I had been doing the job for about 3 years. At the time I preferred working with my hands more and went back into working on shop floors in manufacturing.
I have been having back issues which are getting worse and I find I may not be able to do manual work for much longer and need to change career.
So, onto my question, given the qualifications I have, the limited amount of time I did the actual job for and the amount of time since obtaining the qualification what would be my best course of action to make my self employable in H&S again.
I have spent some time looking in forums and such but can't find out if I need new qualifications or can take some sort of refresher training.
I realise I will have to start at the bottom again but such is life. Any info with this matter would be of great help and I thank you in advance for any advice given.

Contact the BSC and see if there is a refresher in the course you done previous. Failing that, NEBOSH is a good start point, I used them, and then go from there. You need to decide what industry you are going to work in also, that may dictate what you need.

Depending on where your qualifications sit on the European Qualification Framework, you may be able to apply to IOSH as a technical memeber. IOSH accept the BSC level 3 certificate as meeting this requirement, so as Lawlee suggests, your starting point would be contacting the BSC to find out exactly what qualifications you hold. They may have an option for "topping up" your existing qualification to one that meets the IOSH requirements.
