Hi, I'm considering moving back to the UK after living in Australia for a number of years. I have a Cert 4 Occupational Health & Safety which I obtained in Australia as well as a number of years experience working in the Oil & Gas Industry (namely Gorgon Project). I was wondering if I could use my qualification in the UK to obtain work or will I need to do some sort of bridging course? Thanks in advance.

Hi JSafe. I was in a similar situation when I returned to the UK from Australia in 2011. I had gained a number of Qualifications in Australia, Cert IV TAA, Cert IV Health & Safety and numerous others. There is an organisation in the UK that carries out overseas qualification mapping (UK NARIC). I had a number of my qualifications successfully recognised. For example my Cert IV in Training and Assessment is considered comparable to N/SVQ Level 3. Unfortunately, I could not get my Cert IV in OHS recognised though I put this down to that qualification had only just been introduced in Australia following on from the WHSO certification. I have since completed NEBOSH Certificate and now studying NEBOSH Diploma. Good luck with your move and be ready for the repetitive question of "What made you come back here"!!!! Graham
