when you say 'accredited' what do you mean by this and who is the course for? CIEH is (as the previous poster stated) accredited on the QCF at level 2 for Principles (theory only) or level 3 for Principles and Practice (which involves assessment of a project) - is this what you meant?
Might be better to give some background for us to contemplate as the term 'competent' (in this instance) is designated by the employer having taken things into consideration. I take nothing away from the previous (good) suggestion, but I'd ask a few more questions before making a recommendation etc.

I'd send them on the IOSH Managing Safely course Steve, this is geared very much towards the process of risk assessment and is held in very high regard.

Stuart - the question was specific, whilst I applaud IOSH MS - 4/5 days with an un accredited course doesn't answer the needs here.
Suitable courses for candidate needs - we need to do some training needs analysis first. If it is a weeks investment then so be it but lets not crack the nut with a ...... photo copier?? if it isn't appropriate. Even a sledgehammer would be better!

I would not recommend the IOSH Managing Safely at all, especially if your focus was on risk assessment. The course turns it into a monster. The rigid and over-complicated methodology used may well conflict with your own existing organisational practices and procedures.
I do not believe in contracting this out. It's not formal 'training' which is needed, it is an understanding of the decision-making needed in your own safety management, plus confidence building.
Definitely lends itself to a 'workshop' style of education, run by someone comfortable with both your own RA systems and with facilitating. Plus one-to-one 'coaching' conversations for managers wanting some hand-holding. Not necessarily in that order.

I received my training by workshop and have trained a number of others since- accredited looks nice but it is not everything. My training was 3 hours of the steps of risk assessment, having a go at our own and then talking it through. If it has to be accredited, have a look at courses and providers in your area- many companies will do an in house option for a good sized group.
