Hi Everyone,

I am a Chartered Member, who is based in Nottingham, but I have had a 3 year break from Health and Safety, to act as a paid carer for my wife who developed pancreatic cancer. She has recently died and I am looking to return to work as soon as possible. I have a broad range of Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality experience, but my key skills are in the recycling industry. I should welcome advice from anyone, as to how I best go about returning to the Safety Industry.

Thank you for reading.

Hi Sharpe

Sorry to hear of your loss and the last three years must have been hard.

Consider whether you are prepared to move, or otherwise how far you are prepared to commute.

Target members of the Environmental Services Association and other members of the Waste Industry Safety and Health Forum (on HSE web pages) but do your homework first.

Find out what PFI and PPP waste contracts are coming on stream. As new e.g. Energy from Waste facilities are commissioned the need for more H&S resources obviously increases.

But also consider what your experience, knowledge and skill set would be transferable to other sectors.

Sign on with various agencies but don't expect too much from them.

Good luck!
