Distance learning & Nebosh General Cert

Evening ladies & gents,
I have been looking into Nebosh general cert courses and they are all in the region of 10 days long full time and cost between £1000 and £1400.
I am not in any rush to get my Nebosh general cert completed and wondered if anybody has done distance learning for the Nebosh general cert? I have seen a well known jobsite offering courses in the GC for the price of £350 excluding VAT and also excluding the cost of the exam.
Has anybody got experience of distance learning for their NGC?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and regards
Pete

Distance learning is good if you have time to study....depends on you basically. I have done both distance and class room studies for my different Nebosh courses

I am currently doing my Nebosh general cert via distance/online learning.
It is harder than classroom based, but i have have learnt a lot, but really had to put the effort in.
I am expecting my December exam results next week and my last (hopefully) exam is in 2 weeks.

I recommend. I did my NEBOSH when I was in full time employment. I would come back home at 5pm and study till 11pm. Took me 3 months to prepare myself for the exam and I passed 2 points short for distinction. I had had no contact with H&S before that whatsoever. It's not as hard as people say but takes determination and self discipline. I went for the cheapest option and, as the course was crap, I studied from the book and never even finished the online course (Globalwise training). Consider doing NCRQ cert as it's becoming an interesting alternative to NEBOSH. Diploma is made of 2 certificates and it costs less then NEBOSH certificate. Good luck.

I did my NGC when working full time, I was in health and safety which made it a whole lot easier but you do need discipline. Good luck.

I teach this both DL and day release, evening etc. My advice on DL - don't do it. Pass rates are very low! People sometimes think that DL is easier. THERE IS NO SHORT CUT OR EASY WAY! With DL you have to do all the work, with only a distant tutor for support - no class mates, no craic, no mutual support. I would strongly advise going to some sort of class.

I've just submitted my final assessments to NCRQ for the Level 6 Certificate in Applied Health and Safety. If I've done everything correctly it'll just be a case of a validation interview before my certificate is issued. I'm very impressed with the speed of responses from tutors, and a NEBOSH general cert holder that works with me may be looking into doing his diploma with NCRQ. I like the learning style, it's worth a look.

Sorry, meant to add that my NGC was by distance learning and our college tutor when we turned up for the exam also told all the external students that our likelihood of passing was very low - but somehow all the external students did pass and some of his failed - what you get out of it depends on the effort you put into it. You have the forum and loads of people to help, in my day we really were on our own and yet, we still achieved. Wonder of wonders!

I did nebosh ngc 2 years ago while in full time employment as a store man. Had had no idea about H&S before that. English is my second language and it took me 3 months to prepare for the exam and pass it, only 2 points short for distinction. I paid £300 for a distance learning course with Global Wise but it was useless so I studied from the book only. Now I'm doing NCRQ and prefer this form of studying much more. It actually lets you understand the subject, not only memorize definitions. However, NEBOSH allowed me to get my foot in the door and land my first job in H&S, so I assume it's quite useful.

It's well over 20 years since I took and passed my NGC. I think the course and allied expenses, hotel etc, cost my then employer around £2K. I then went on to study for the various Diploma modules at my own expense.
I didn't bother with further NEBOSH exams until 2014. I was on a fixed term contract and my employer decided to send my line manager and me on the NEBOSH Fire Certificate course. There were only 5 other participants on the course. The exam was the following week.
We both passed the FC2 (practical), I achieved 89% but both failed FC1. We didn't keep in touch with any of the other participants. A few months later I moved on to take another assignment elsewhere.
In the autumn of 2015 I was recovering from surgery and awaiting further surgery and quite frankly was bored. My wife laughingly suggested that I should revise for the NEBOSH exam. I felt that this was a good idea so promptly enrolled for the exam via my original training provider. I still had the course "work-books" etc, so set myself the task of revising and self-tutoring.
It quickly became apparent that there was a substantial amount that the training provider had failed to cover. Time was on my side so I covered everything in depth.
I went along to the exam venue and was pleasantly surprised to be confronted by one of my fellow participants. He had also failed FC1 and was there to take a re-sit. He knew of 2 others that had also failed FC1 (at least 5 out of 7).
I didn't have time to complete all the questions (not an uncommon feature) so I didn't expect success. I'm pleased to say that yesterday I received the news that I've passed comfortably.
I hope this illustrates that NEBOSH exams can be passed through distance learning. Conversely courses can be failed even with a reputable provider. Much depends upon the individual student and of course the individual tutor.

I just got my results today and passed CG2 & CG3, well above the 45% pass mark too, I studied through distant learning also,
I did fail my NGC1 tho by 2 marks, but I think that was due to me not understanding the term outline. once I knew I failed I made sure I put more effort into studying and took more time with the questions.
My NGC1 resit is next week, fingers crossed for this one.

How are you finding the NCRQ? I'm impressed with it but I've only just finished reading the first 2 case studies but can see they must be the longest ones, I've had a little sneak peek at the assessment 1 and I feel that I would be able to have a go at it now but I don't want to skip any of it in the mean time, how much time have you spent on them?
