Hi All, I have worked in Manufacturing for around 18 years and have gained qualifications such as IOSH Managing Safely, Intermediate FOOD HYGIENE, NEBOSH Cert and Chartered institute of Management Diploma.

I left my job as Health and Safety/HR Manager for a medium manufacturing business recently due to my husbands career and relocation etc.

I have been approached by a few local companies wanting health and safety support/project work/audits etc and I am thinking I should just set myself up as self employed and go forward with adhoc work. I'm not fussed about regular hours/income as I still have young children but I do feel I have an opportunity to balance the both.

Anyone have any words of warning or top tips? I know I would need to register as self employed and put insurance in place but am I really qualified enough? I think I am and Companies (Small/Medium) are approaching me through recommendations.

Thanks in advance

I think you have answered your own question - paper qualifications are all well and good, but what counts to most clients is whether you are competent to do the work.

Recommendations from others indicates that at least somebody thinks you are competent.

When I took people on to work with me, experience/competency always trumped paper qualifications

Good Luck.
