I have both IOSH Managing Safely and NEBOSH General Certificate. I left the H&S profession last Christmas due to a poor political conditions and a very uncooperative director at my then employer. I have spent 6 months out of the profession for some of which was unable to work due to a back injury. I now want to return to the profession I feel that my heart is in H&S. A problem that some potential employers have raised is that a large amount of my experience (I guess 30 - 40%) is in high level policy work. The rest of my experience is more practically based. I have had one interview where I was shown around the company’s workshop and I was complimented picking up all of relevant points and other minor issues so my practical skills are appear to be good.
Does any one have any advice or guidance on finding jobs? I could relocate for the right job.

Your two certificates may not be enough Gordon you may need to train up a bit more, The IOSH managing safely is mainly for Supervisors and Managers for a company and not really aimed at the Health & Safety Practitioner, So that just leaves you with the Nebosh General Certificate which i think is a level 3 Cert.,
It may pay for you to invest in some more training ideally up to Diploma standards and then rise up the IOSH ranks from Tech to Graduate member.
That way you will find more opportunities, I doubt you would find a decent job as a Health and Safety Manager with just a Nebosh General Certificate

If your rest of experience is practical, try to find a job in same industry as much as possible , definitely you will be good asset for them. Later if you had chance then see how you could enhance your training to Dip level, either via NVQ or other ways

I agree with Gerry and SHV. You really need to look at further training.
There are many who post looking for careers advice on here who do the training but have not experience, which is hard to get; you have that advantage, but to really maximize you do need to augment it with further training, get up to Grad IOSH status and it will show the employers that you are as serious as you say you are.
