Hi,
I volunteer for a local organisation and we sometimes use ambulance style carry sheets to extract injured peoeple from crowd situations. Whilst doing some training on their use the other evening, I noticed that the sheets do not indicate a SWL and do not appear to be subject to any form of inspection/maintenance regime. Just wondered if there was a requirement for this under LOLER or other regulations? Not sure if any of you can help with this.
The sheets are usually made of a heavy duty oil cloth type material with 4 webbing handles down each side to carry them by which are stitched to the main sheet. They are only usually used for fast extraction to a safe place, and the volunteers that use them must have the relevant manual and patient handling training - we do also advise preuse checks (stitching, holes, cleanliness etc) but this is as far as it goes!
Any help/advice appreciated! Thanks.
