Hi all
I am looking into the role of a principal designer (CDM 2015). I have a couple of questions you guys may be able to answer.
1. What qualifications does a PD require?
2. Does anyone have any recommendations on PD courses and qualifications that a PD should have?

You could start by looking at APS (Association for Project Safety)

The PD has to be a designer with control of the pre-construction phase. Gone are the days when clients could choose to appoint a CDM Co-ordinator to apply independent oversight of how designers comply with their duties.
So in our organisation we apply a corporate approach to delivery of the role of PD but with support from CDM Advisers, who come from either construction professional and/or health and safety disciplines. This enables internal independent oversight of how our designers behave.
