If something is unwanted, there is generally no need to ban it, as people tend not to spend their money on things they don't want.

Just because something hasn't been found to be dangerous yet doesn't mean it won't be found to be so in the future - plenty of examples to prove the case - including asbestos, microbeads, opium, thalidomide, lead paint, mercury, tobacco etc. 

Some interesting links below which highlights some of the crazy products/uses of items which were once considered to be safe before we realised the error of our ways? Currently most people believe vaping is a better alternative than smoking cigarettes but only time will tell whether this assumption is correct.
