Hi all

I have completed my Nebosh general certificate and diploma.

I have one year left on my Masters for occupational health, safety, and environmental management.

I would like to keep growing and striving to improve myself. Does anyone have any advice for me on what to undertake next? It doesn't necessarily have to be health and safety-related.

Thanks

Hi Dixie - that is one of the "how long is a piece of string?" questions.

Depends on what you have done [and in what sector(s)], what you are doing [ditto], and what your career goals are.

....but since you didn't exclude things other than qualfications from the substance of your Q, "what next?" should be in your IOSH CPD Development Plan going forward, where CPD is about all the things you do to enable you to perform better [which might mean deeper and/or broader].

So you could go deeper and develop specialist knowledge in a topic with which you have a reasonable understanding - so may be look at say asbestos and get into asbestos management, in one or more of its various aspects.

You could go broader and look for a job in a different sector, or it might be that your existing work expands into other sectors [happened to me].

You could go broader and expand into e.g. environmental or quality management, or leave out the word "management" and just upskill in managing the risks.

You could decide to go it alone and learn the skills needed to run a business.

The options are almost limitless.

You could study some of the short free courses that are out there on almost every subject you could think of and decide which of the subjects interest you enough to pick for further study.

Or alternatively you could consider what would be useful for you in achieveing your career aims.

thanks 1 user thanked Kate for this useful post.

Why not go for a hooby related bit of training. Learn to bake, paint play an instrument or join a club.

Sound like you have put a lot into your career, perhaps you need to balance that with something to wind down or blow off steam outside of work.
