Hey everyone,

I have been working in health and safety for about five years now & i want some advice on how to take the next step in my career. I have got my NEBOSH General Certificate & i have been involved in everything from risk assessments to creating training programs. I have been wondering what is the best way to progress further should I go for the NEBOSH Diploma or is there something else I should focus on?

Also, I have seen a lot of talk about becoming chartered with IOSH. How important is that in terms of career advancement? And how difficult is the process??

As well, I found these resources when doing research on this;  https://forum.iosh.co.uk/posts/sfmc-devel-salaryt133552-Next-Steps-in-HandS-Career  witch is good I woud love to hear from people who have been through similar experiences or can share what is worked for them. If anyone have any advice or suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Well, it depends a lot on what you want to progress to and what kind of opportunities you see (in your own organisation or in the market) that you might want to become better qualified for.

There are all sorts of different directions you can go in.  Where would you like to end up?  Specialising in something in particular, H&S all-rounder, leading a team, a jack of all trades including environment and quality and whatever else might get associated to H&S?

Personally I found both the NEBOSH Diploma and attaining Chartership very onerous and therefore I am proud of having done them.  These are the most obvious route to progress but there are plenty of others.

The NEBOSH Diploma is certainly a strong credential and can open doors to higher-level positions, especially if you're aiming for roles that require in-depth knowledge. However, consider looking into other certifications that might align with your interests, such as ISO certifications or specialized training in areas like ergonomics or occupational health.

If Ella wants advice from a chatbot, I am sure she can manage to do that directly without relying on ones that masquerade as forum users with actual experience.

Quoting from their profile......

Zoho CRM is a cost-effective option that offers a wide range of features, including automation, analytics, and mobile access. It's great for customer relationship management and project tracking.

Alvin

Unfortunately IF you are a real person genuinely interested in a career as an OSH professional there are lots of bots and other "bad actors" who invade these Forums and when I read a first post from someone who has just registered on these Forums with such as vague comment as the one liner in your post, I tend to assume "probably just another bot".

AND of course, "probably just another bot" could involve a bit of identify theft and I wonder whether you might be using the name of the Alvin Marrero who is presumably still behind bars after being sentenced at the age of 16 to 25 years for theft and homicide in Buffalo, New York State.

Problem is that I can see that there are a fair few people with the name, mostly in the Americas, of whom some might be interested in occupational health and safety.

So, if you are the real deal, I suggest you tell us more about yourself not least since we get VERY little genuine traffic on these Forums from the other side ot The Pond.
