Health & Safety in the Beauty Industry

I am currently training in EHS as an apprentice in the manufacturing industry. I have prior experience working in the beauty industry as a professional and I am looking at combining my H&S knowledge with my beauty industry knowledge. Does anyone have specific experience of working in H&S in the beauty industry? Or does anyone have advice on how to tailor my knowledge in this direction?

Hi Victoria Welcome to the forums. This is what I call thinking ahead. The beauty sector use all sorts of potentially hazardous things from nasty chemicals to surprisingly powerful lasers to injecting stuff. The potential for it going very wrong is enormous. What you need to do is build on your knowledge and understanding of what you already know about the sector and dig a bit deeper. In the case of chemicals you really need to understand what they do and what are the best ways to manage them while still being able to use them. One key thing is finding out how to decode an SDS, as the controls in an SDS are often so generic as to be useless. I have no idea if there are courses available for this sort of training but the key thing is to avoid being to generic. I am pretty certain that the sector needs to improve its approach to Health and Safety matters so some specialists in this area can only be welcomed.
