This piqued my interest because of the BLEVE.

This is interesting...the HSE identified issues with this machine in 2024 after two explosions...another happened earlier this year in South Wales and now another in Swindon this week....the control system does not have a safety rating even though the system can undergo thermal runaway leading to an explosion under normal or foreseeable conditions (unattended heating cycle)...and all the instructions say is do not leave unattended...

Is it me but since Brexit we seem to be buying more stuff from places like Turkey and India which are outside the Machinery Directive regime ( no CE marks?).

I think you can try and make that link but I personally think it has always been a problem...Thes standards exist across europe, but how they are enforced in these coutries is an issue...I rememeber just over 15 years ago now trying to explain to an Italian process control contractor the nuances of ISO 13489 and IEC 61508...they had been awared thier first contract on a UK CoMAH site...but the plus side thier coffe was good ;)

Morning Steve

To be honest you had me rather concerned with the bit about "all the instructions say do not leave unattended" as I thought "What happened to the General Principles of Prevention?" but to be fair to the regulators that is only what they are saying as an interim measure for those users of machines already in use who think they have to continue using these machines pending getting the unsafe CONDITIONS sorted out.
