Hi - currently facing a tricky situation where we are trying to evict a bunch of squatters from a premises which are not being used but remain our responsibility until it is sold. Damage caused by the squatters could potentially have exposed asbestos and we need to arrange for a company to go in and do an initial air quality test. The company quite rightly refuses to do so until the squatters are removed; the security company and Police can't carry out an eviction without the use of the appropriate PPE. I assume the quickest way to do this is to ask the asbestos company to provide the appropriate PPE and training (they will be present the entire time the guards and Police are present), but I have no experience of this. Does anyone know a company in the Bristol area/South West that can assist with this; or would there even be an issue with that as any company will only provide PPE and training to its own staff? Suggestions gratefully received!

Assuming you have the authority to regain the premises through a court of law the act of removing the squatters is the [police and/or apointed body to discharge. They will be fully conversant with this specific type of risk and should have arrangements to control it, simply ask that that is the case and let them deal with the situation. You will be handed the property upon completion of the eviction at which time you can hand it to the asbestos removal company who should be fully competent to manage the situation. Rely upon thier expertise and experience but check they follow the correct procedures and you will be quite safe.
