Hello all. Thank you for taking your time in reading this.

Firstly I would just like to explain that I am looking to pursue my career further, hence why I have recently completed and passed my IOSH Managing Safely course, & recently just sat my NEBOSH exams.

I have several years oil & gas pipeline experience, but looking to climb the ladder in to safety. Hopefully a entry/trainee level, so I can shadow somebody. I feel that is the safest option for me. Rather than just doing the courses and then jumping straight in to a safety advisory role with no experience, which some people do.

I was wondering if anybody on this site reading this, knows of any positions or knows anybody who could be looking for entry safety staff? I have my offshore survival & medical. I also have worked on/offshore within the UK & over seas in country's such as Asia, the Middle East & Canada.

I would be grateful if anybody has any information or advice to help me take the right steps in to a safety position.

Also regarding the Tech Iosh graded names you can achieve? How do you know what grade you are if any? Thank you.

Kind regards

Wayne

Hi Wayne
I would say that with your experience offshore and overseas, as well as your recent NEBOSH, you're probably better placed than you might think to "jump right in". Have a trawl through Health and Safety positions advertised on Oil careers.com, Oil and Gas Job Search and Rigzone, to name but a few, and see what you think would be suitable. Once you get a start, you might find you're better equipped for some roles than you think and provded you're honest with potential employers, your transferrable skills might be enough to get you in somewhere where they will invest some time training you and letting you gain experience. Remeber, you employers will want you to be successful, recruitment and retention are big issues in the Oil and Gas sector right now. If you are serious, you might want to think about your location as well, the closer you are to main hubs such as Aberdeen, the easier it might be to find work in this field, although I know it isn't always as easy as just upping sticks, especially if you have young family. Good luck either way

Hi Wayne, I would agree with Nicky experience and knowledge is more important than qualifications when starting out theses will come with time. With regards to the grades the various organisations that offer membership will issue these depending on their individual criteria. Good luck with everything.
