Hi all

After completing my NVQ5 recently I have been looking at the next step to take. I initially looked at a few BSc courses, but then found a few Masters programmes that accept entry with an NVQ 5. (Loughborough, Sunderland Etc)

My question is has any one else made this leap from level 4/5 to a MSc? And how did you find it?

I’m Ok with studying and exams, but i think I would prefer to do this level in a PT taught environment rather than E-learning

Thanks

Hi

yes I have gone from NVQ4/5 or what ever number it was at the time, onto an MSc at Loughborough.

However, you have to study the certificate, diploma before ubdertaking the Msc. Initially I was not too keen about doing the certifiacte and diploma first, but I found I was at an advantage over other candidates who only did the MSc.

Really enjoyable course, cant recommend it enough!

pm me if you feel it would help.

Did my MSc at Salford in Occ Health and Safety. Prior to that I did admittedly do a BSc in Biomedicine - that said I had no prior safety quals and found the MSc to be 'relatively straightforward'. A lot of the work is based on your own interpretation and judgement so so long as you've a way with words and can get your head into some research material, an MSc alongwith you having NVQ5 safety quals should be fine.

Interestingly some of the guys on my MSc had done the Dip and Certs through Nebosh and these were the ones that struggled with the more acdemic approach. That said the course was great, everyone at least got a PgDip I beleive and best of all you can't really get much higher in terms of academia - unless you want to do a PhD!
