Hello. Last April I obtained my NEBOSH NGC and shortly afterwards secured a 3 week job on the strength of this certificate (and my working experience) on a 'Heavy Lift' offshore crane construction vessel in the South China Sea. Since then I have not had any other direct safety related jobs, and have had to go back to my original work as an 'offshore crane operator' (wind industry and oil industry), of which in itself contains a lot of safety elements and acquired knowledge. Some other background information - I am presently studying for my NEBOSH construction certificate which I plan to take either March or June 2015. I have also worked offshore and in the marine industry for many years. My two questions are:- Do I qualify for 'Tech IOSH' on the strength of the above information? What do you think is my best approach to stepping permanently into a health and safety career, preferably in the offshore construction industry (wind/oil/tidal etc.)? I would be grateful for any leads, contacts or networking avenues. I look forward to any replies Tim

Hi Tim, In regard to your eligibility for award of Tech IOSH status, I'm surprised you're not Tech IOSH already! Successful completion of your NGC is certainly sufficient to meet the academic requirements and I would advise that you proceed with an application to IOSH without further delay. Your offshore work experience will also certainly support your application so you should have no problems. In regard to a safety role in the offshore industry, I can't assist you with any particular leads or contacts I'm afraid (could do with some of those myself!), but all I would say is keep your eyes and ears open for any opportunities and apply for everything! A good place to look for offshore job opportunities on the internet is at gulftalent.com or oilcareers.com as there's always thousands of jobs listed on these sites. Your previous offshore experience should serve you well as most of the adverts are looking for previous experience in the industry. Hope this perhaps helps Tim and good luck with your job hunting. Graham
