I have a couple of queries; - apart from Construction what other job opportunities are there? - do most employers follow UK employment law e.g do they have restrictions on age? - do most of the employers follow good HR practice and how "safe" are jobs out there?

I sometimes wonder at your two questions. Personally I do not think they do follow these code of practices.

UAE Law is a mixture of European and USA + some of their own, the safety is not to UK standards – However it is progressing to meet the growth of the country all the time. The problem is the UAE population is relatively small – the vast majority of the population ( manual workers) are from the sub – continent ( India – Pakistan ) who have very poor H&S knowledge and understanding of working safely. There is age restrictions along with nationality restrictions for certain jobs.
