I am delighted to announce I have successfully been confirmed CMISOH as of last week. I would like to give advice to anyone in the middle of the journey.

I took the NVQ route as it fitted in my field base role and it seemed never ending but rewarding once complete and graduated at Grimsby just before last Christmas. I then booked two weeks off work in January to complete the open book assessments. The exercise was an experience, I would say tips to help would be for, section a, ensure you have planned the time right such as quiet room, don't panic and use tools around you. Section B is all about the word count being correct and being able to research. You can also clarify any questions with the membership department at any time. I found the staff a great help!.

My Peer Interview was last week and I am comfortable with presenting as I do this regularly for my role, especially talking about my ten year story in health and safety. I stood up and even walked the room while talking as this is my preferred way. Questions they ask are about situations in work and you would expect some of these in general interviews. I would say keep lots of examples in your head and explain how you things in your environment even if its low risk like mine is retail.

The whole experience looking back seems horrific and friends in other industries don't quite understand why I put myself through all of this. However the feeling once you receive your certificate, knowing you have put yourself on a equal playing field with fellow peers and return to you normal day to day job is very rewarding and I recommend anyone to keep trying and you will succeed.

I hope this helps everyone on their journey!

Kate, well done that's both excellent and inspiring!

I found out yesterday that I passed my final NEBOSH Dip element and am now Diploma qualified - hoorah! I am also about to start working towards CMIOSH.

It is an extremely challenging journey for most..... but worth it I'm sure!

Well done Kate but it got me thinking about the Careers Forum and the fact I had the absolute pleasure of giving you your very 1st chance in safety years ago.

So one for IOSH from me - read this info from Kate and let people put opportunities on these boards and we may get more of this good news.

Congratulations Kate - it's good to hear people's story and journey towards CMIOSH, as it is different for everyone. All I can say is I am looking at CFIOSH now, and as a Chair on the PRI's already, knowing that I now have to have another interview for CFIOSH, is quite daunting, I don't think that will ever change for any of us, as it is so important to us.

All you can do is put your best case forward and try and enjoy the experience.

As an EDA, I also offer advice and guidance for those on the route to CMIOSH, so if anyone wants to contact me fell free to do so.

Well done again Kate.

Congratulations Kate

It was interesting to read your story, and like you i went the NVQ 5 route and graduated in Grimsby ..... which was interesting especially after a 5 hour drive!!!! I had also been in safety for around 10 years as well so some similarities.

I would say have a think about the next steps as after gaining the CMIOSH in March i have had quite a void in my life with reference to not studying for Diploma / CPD etc....

Have a break and get ready to get your teeth in to something else to keep the journey going

well done

Matt
